Wood Buffalo National Park 2019

Based on our interest in night photography and our interest in exploring our National Parks, we decided to drive to Wood Buffalo National Park in the far northeastern corner of Alberta.  We timed our visit when there was no moon interfering with the viewing of the night sky, knowing that the Aurora Borealis was more likely to be seen further north.   We rented a cabin through the National Park for 4 nights.  We left Calgary on September 23rd and returned on October 2nd, staying at Red Earth Lodge and Hay River on the way up and back and driving over 3300kms.  We were fortunate to see wildlife and hike a variety of trails for 3 days, watching the night sky each night but unfortunately it was cloudy most of the nights, with snow overnight on the third night.  Luckily, we saw the Aurora on our last night and it was amazing.  A great trip that we would do again in a heartbeat.
